The Online Courseroom Experience:

The Schedule:

Enrolling at the University of Fredericton:

Is it hard to learn how to use the online courseroom?

Not at all -- Using the online courseroom is similar to using email, your computer, or any basic software program.

In our MBA/EMBA programs, as your first introduction to the University of Fredericton's courseroom and online learning in general you will take an initial orientation course. This orientation course is designed to provide new learners with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their online degree programs. The orientation course familiarizes learners with the University of Fredericton online environment and support resources provided to ensure success. Learners build skills in the selection and use of methods, techniques, and library resources. The orientation course takes no longer than one week to complete on a part time self paced basis with a faculty directing participation. It includes how to use the best technology and learning practices in the online campus; an overall general guide to how to be an online student; and an orientation to the virtual classroom. top

How will I know what I am supposed to do next and where to click?

At the University of Fredericton, getting around our campus is easy! Settle down with your coffee and laptop and you're there. Prior to beginning your first course, learners are required to enroll in a week-long Online Orientation which allows the learner to become familiar with the system before beginning their studies. top

How do I receive and hand in assignments?

Learners can view, print and post assignments right on the campus. Grades are posted on your personal profile as well as faculty comments. top

How do I interact with my faculty and classmates?

Learners find that one of the most exciting advantages to our online learning environment is the ongoing opportunity to interact online with faculty and other learners.

  • By email: Learners and instructors exchange email addresses at the beginning of each course, which enables ongoing discussion outside of the online courseroom.
  • Using online discussion threads: Track topical discussions or respond to questions posed by your instructor.
  • Live Lecture: We use a synchronous delivery system (DiscoverE Virtual Learning Environment). The Lecture is moderated by the course faculty and you just have to be concerned about your preparation and participation - it is almost identical to a face-to-face class. The learner orientation takes about 15 minutes for a first time user. You only need a high speed connection and a headset with a microphone.
  • Message Center: In the asynchronous component, you are given a log in and brief orientation (about 10 minutes) and you are ready to ask, answer and address the subject matter. top
What kind of support can I expect from faculty and advisors?

Learners can expect first class support from the University staff and faculty. We guarantee a response to your question within one business day. We are available to assist with anything you may need. top

Is the University program really 100% online?

Yes, 100%. This includes registration, ordering books, posting assignments, interacting with classmates, receiving feedback from instructors, etc. Imagine, no long commute and no waiting in lines. top

What are the significant differences between online learning and classroom learning?

You can earn why you learn without a major disruption of your business and personal life. What this means is focus. You can focus on learning what you want to learn on your time and in your place. In the classroom itself, you can take your time to think, and then contribute. And all of the courses are recorded in case you miss one or want to go back and reinforce your learning. top

What time are classes held?

Any time, day or night, you can access your course and participate online, as long as you have an Internet connection. Learners usually need to log in 4-7 times each week, but there is no set class schedule so you can "attend class" anytime. Typically, learners spend an average of 18 hours per week, per course with times varying from 5 to 8 hours per course depending on factors such as number of course credit hours, degree program, and learner's prior knowledge.

There is one weekly live session with your professor and classmates. Other than that, you choose. This form of program delivery allows you to fit school into your busy schedule, rather than attempting to fit your schedule around school. Nothing could be more convenient. top

Do classes have specific start and end dates?

Yes, each course has a designated start and end date. Each course is seven weeks in duration. top

How long will my program take me to complete?

The amount of time you will need to earn your degree depends on several factors, including:

  • The program you enroll in
  • Whether you transfer in previously earned college or university credit
  • How many classes you take at one time

There are typically six academic terms per year for the EMBA program.   Each course is seven weeks in duration.   Completion of the EMBA degree program is approximately ten academic terms ( 2 ¼ years).  During this time, students can expect to commit between 18 - 25 hours per week on their studies.  While not normal, the length of time to earn a degree can be extended up to a total duration of four years.

For a better idea of how long it will take for you to complete your degree, call 1-506-454-6232.  Our enrolment Manager can help you map out your program. top

What are my program requirements?

Your program requirements are easily accessible on this web site. Each program section includes nearly everything you need to know about completing your degree. To find your program of interest, visit the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program Section or visit the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Program Section. Or, call 1-506-454-6232 and speak with our enrolment Manager who can help you choose and map out the program that is right for you. top

How and when do I enroll in online courses?

Can I use photocopies of my university transcripts to apply?

Applicants must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended. An official transcript is one that is forwarded directly to the Admissions Office of the University by the issuing institution, or (if provided by the applicant) in the school's sealed transcript envelope. A student's copy, photocopy, transcript with courses in progress, or a transcript not contained in the school's sealed transcript envelope is considered to be unofficial or interim and will be used only for the preliminary evaluation. An offer of admission based on unofficial or interim documents will be conditional until the Admissions Office has received the final official transcripts (as described above) and the applicant has satisfied all admission requirements.

Transcripts in languages other than English must be submitted together with notarized English translations. top

How is tuition paid?

There are three options for payment of tuition for the MBA Programs. The first option requires full payment of each year's tuition amount at the beginning of each of the two years. You may pay online with Visa or MasterCard or send a cheque in Canadian Funds. A surcharge applies to the course-by-course payment option. top
