Certified Ergonomics Coordinator


Why this program is needed
 

Designed to enable workplace safety personnel and health professionals to deal with ergonomics issues that often arise in the workplace from poor design of workstations and workplaces, this comprehensive ergonomics course introduces an integrated approach to Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Prevention using major North American ergonomics guidelines.

Professions and occupations having particular interest in this course: Health and Safety Professionals, Safety Advisors and Officers, Health and Safety Committee members, Industrial Hygienists, Kinesiologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Human Resource and Personnel Managers, Insurance Providers, Disability Managers, Case Managers, Nurses, Union Leaders, and Business Managers.

The certificate program is divided into 2 courses: Foundations, and Advanced. To achieve the certification both courses must be completed with a passing grade.


Foundations Course - Key Outcomes


Participants will be able to:
  • Describe a job using a systems engineering model
  • Sell ergonomics to management
  • Create a description of the physical demands of job
  • Identify and control work related musculoskeletal hazards
  • Measure MSD hazards for ergonomics risk assessment
  • Assess industrial tasks using the Washington State checklist
  • Identify work related and personal risk factors for lower back injury
  • Apply design and set-up guidelines to computer workstation components, such as the chair, keyboard, mouse, monitor, telephone, accessories and lighting
  • Control process for engineering, administrative and person protective equipment types of risk controls

     

Advanced Course - Key Outcomes


Participants will be able to:
  • Implement an ergonomics program for musculoskeletal disorder prevention
  • Conduct a computer workstation assessment when an employee reports symptoms
  • Identify work related and control personal risk factors for upper extremity disorders
  • Use the NIOSH lifting equation to assess risk from lifting
  • Apply ergonomics design guidelines to the workstation components in an industrial or office job.
  • Practice conducting ergonomics risk assessments using a variety of common methods
  • Make measurable ergonomics interventions in organizations
  • Investigate organizational factors that contribute to the problem of musculoskeletal disorders such as psycho-social stress and poor safety culture



Program Details
 

Tuition for the Ergonomics Coordinator Certificate course is $950.00/course. The course is delivered completely online with weekly online classroom sessions. The required textbook is not included in the cost of the course.
